Today has been a lot less productive than I would like. Usually when I get up I think about all the stuff I mean to do during the day and somehow it never works out that way. I let time get away from me just fooling around online and chatting with friends; before I know it Alex is home from school and I've got to start the crap job of cleaning up the kitchen so I can make dinner and my day is gone. At least the place is clean so I don't have to feel guilty about that. After dinner I'm parking my ass in the corner of our sectional couch and I'm not putting my knitting down unless there is a fire.
Yesterday was our SnB and on the way into town I stopped at my LYS to pick up some yarn and a pattern for a new project. I've been planning this project for a couple of weeks but didn't get started because I couldn't decide between two things. In the end I still can't decide so I'm making both. Unfortunately I can't really discuss it because it's a secret sort of project, but I will show you the yarn.

The yarn I bought yesterday for the first project turned out to be a bit thinner than I liked when I swatched it up, but here I'm doubling it with a strand of sock yarn and now it's perfect. The difference in colour of the two strands adds to the heathered yarn and I just love it. It's Sirdar Country Style DK in Highland Blue. The sock yarn is this, the blue one.

This is some Pengouin yarn my sister had but hadn't used, and it was exactly the colour I wanted so she sold it to me. I haven't swatched it up yet, I'm concentrating on the first half of the project first.

oooh secrets....
I just noticed the "pretty!" and "also pretty!' which got a nice little chuckle outta me.
So I am my way to knitting my first pair of socks, but it was completely unintentional. I started slippers but they are so snug around the foot that I'm going to pick up stitches around the ankle and knit straight then seam at the back. It's a pretty remedial way of going about things, but it allows me to call my creation "ghetto socks", and you have to love that! :)

That's a great idea. Ghetto socks, snerk. I have to admit, seams in socks, hats and mittens are not my favourite, but if you're not going to be wearing them in shoes I guess the seams won't matter. Have you tried knitting in the round yet?
I just went to your site and noticed the finished baby cardigan you made (I didn't notice it before). It's great! I have no doubt that you'll be knitting socks in the round in no time.

i think they'll end up being more like slipper socks that i'll wear around the house when I'm cold (which is fairly often). I have knit hats in the round before but with circular. I've only used dpns to make a cowl on a sweater and it's ladder city (but the yarn hides it). I'll get to socks, I just really need to hunker down and finish my backlog of projects first. Maybe for a "kick" i'll give the dpn a go... I just need to do some more research (ie. hit up my knitting books)
Thanks re: cardigan. It was a grand success, and their 4 year old daughter can't wait for her new little brother to grow out of it, because then it becomes clothing for her dollies.

Dpns are from the dev-eeel. I avoid them as much as I can. I usually magic loop everything, but sometimes when I don't have a needle long enough to magic loop, I just knit around with the excess cord just looped out. It's a bit awkward, but not as awkward as the dpns. Will we get to see your socks?

i'll post them when they're done. :) I've decided to bump them to the top of my list since i'm the most excited to finish these, and they won't take me much longer to complete.

you know, i find it amazing that when i'm at home, the day just gets away from me, yet when at work the day is soooo long. when i'm at home on vacation or whatever, i too have all these plans, most of which i don't even start on. i end up on the computer or out to the gym or something unproductive like watching HGTV while brushing the cats and by the end of the day i feel like a big old lame-o. i wish i was one of those people who just get SHIT DONE, you know, the kind of person who has a list and just scratches the items off one by one. but alas, i am not.
blah.

You're describing my days. Minus the Alex and knitting.
