This hat is for a friend of a friend...Caren will be facing chemotherapy in February and hopefully she can get even a teeny amount of comfort from this cap. I don't know Caren personally so I don't know if she's a crocheted flower kind of girl, but just in case she is I made a little band she can add to the cap to dress it up a bit (the band is not attached). The pattern is Shedir from Knitty. I used the recommended yarn (Rowan Calmer) and knit the whole thing using two 3mm circular needles. Surprisingly it was a really quick knit; I started it Friday night and finished it last night.
All it needs is a bit of blocking and then it'll be on its way to Susie in New Jersey, who will pass it on to her friend. Good luck, Caren! Our thoughts are with you.

Oh Maggie, this is gorgeous! When I tell Caren that you made this for her, I can only imagine how touched she'll be. She truly appreciates the beauty of something lovingly made by hand (she's married to an artist), and the fact that you did this for a perfect stranger is so kind. She is someone who has always engaged in acts of kindness for those in need (just this past year she traveled down to New Orleans to help clean up homes and houses of worship in danger of being condemned, and she regularly helps out at a local shelter), and I think this is a perfect example of getting back from society the same kind of energy you give.
I know you already told me to quit it with the thank-yous, but please just indulge me this one last time. Thank you.

Holy cow, that is a gorgeous hat! Holy cow, that is gorgeous handspun sock yarn! Holy cow! That is a gorgeous sock!
Wow. I'm so impressed! Good job! I haven't made any yarn that pretty. Did you do anything specific with the roving to get it to stripe like that? Laura

The hat is gorgeous. I am sure your friend's friend will be very happy with the hat. I love the little white flower.

That is the most beautiful Shedir I have ever seen!
(Probably from the contrasting colour of the hat itself against the band and the flower?)
