About Me
January 2006

My name is Maggie. I'm 31. I have a son named Alex who is 12. I married my husband, Jeremy, in September of 2004. We got married in my parents' living room in front of a small group of family, and Alex stood with us and our officiant during the ceremony.

In the summer of 2005 we bought our first house and graduated from living in my parents' basement to having our own home. The house is a converted summer cottage a few minutes away from the lake. It's about 50 years old and needs quite a bit of work, mostly cosmetic. So far, mould and a nasty infestation of carpenter ants have been our main obstacles. You can read about that here.

We moved out of Toronto because it's cheaper up here and because I like the smaller town atmosphere. I also like being able to have a campfire in my backyard. Jeremy is a freelance illustrator and also does time in the warehouse of a furniture store. Alex goes to school and I try to keep my house clean and use the rest of my time selfishly for knitting and watching copious amounts of tv. I sometimes write about the tv I watch over here.

My mom taught me to knit and crochet when I was around 4 years old, but I never had the patience to actually make anything. In November of 2003 I tried again, this time learning how to read patterns. Unfortunately I didn't catch on to the whole gauge thing until I was trying to seam up my first sweater, which was for Jeremy. My mom helped me, and through tenacity alone were giant sleevecaps married to tiny armholes. The result: puffed sleeves that would make any prom attendee from 1984 jealous. The sweater could also double as a straightjacket. All that work! I would have killed myself if it wasn't just so fucking funny.
