It’s patterning!
I couldn’t wait and even though I’ve already got two socks on the go, I had to see how my yarn knitted up. I’m pretty impressed. No pooling!

My second attempt. Now I need to get more undyed yarn, and some real dyes. And an extra kitchen.
Yeah, I couldn’t wait. Unfortunately this hank is still a bit damp so I can’t wind it up just yet. I really like the colours but I didn’t do as well a job this time as I did before. In some areas it seems I didn’t put enough pigment. I hope when it’s all wound up it looks good like that, but it wasn’t my intention. I mixed Kool-Aid colours to get better shades, but in a couple of instances the colours separated while the yarn was in the oven, leaving me with a few lengths of bright turquoise and bright green instead of the dulled versions I had mixed. We shall see.

Why would you need real dye? Or is it because they come in different colours?
that’s looking pretty awesome and i like the fact that the second one changes colour intensity. i think it’ll look pretty cool.
Kool-Aid is really limited in colours and intensity. With real dye I could control all of that and guarantee colourfastness…in case I wanted to sell. I wouldn’t sell the Kool-Aid dyed stuff - it’s not professional quality. But I would sell the yarn if I used commercial dyes.
Both colourways look like candy and are kind of pastel. I’d like to do something bolder.
you are indeed a genius! that is sooo awesome, totally gorgeous sockity goodness!
Dude. That yarn looks BADASS. I am so impressed.
(and the title of your post. Giggle.)
Love it! You need to open a store and sell nothing but hand dyed socks! Someday i’ll learn how to knit those.. i always look at that pre-patterend sock wool and drool.
Have you ever been to Romni Wool on Queen St? I went over the holidays… I think i’m in love.
Aw, thanks, Soosan! I’ve been there once, but it’s really far from where I live so I haven’t been back. It’s a big store, I’ll give it that.

The patterning is fantastic. Great job.
