I emailed with Erika (from the comments of my previous post) and she was nice enough to share my pain and give me some helpful suggestions on troubleshooting my WP installation. In the end I have decided not to bother with fixing it. I’ve installed Movable Type and I’ll be using that from now on. For now I’m keeping the current installation up and in this directory, so I’ll have my archives.
I’m going to try exporting my data from Wordpress for import into MT. I searched and found a script, authored by and available from Carthik.net. The script is here. To use it, paste the text into a new document and give it a .php extension, upload it into your root WP folder and access the file through your browser. The output should be your data formatted for import into MT. Paste everything into a new document, save it as import.txt and follow Movable Type’s importing instructions.
I’ve actually done this once before a while ago and it worked like a charm. I’d forgotten about it until just now. WP has undergone a bunch of changes since then so I’m not expecting a miracle, but it’s worth a try.
And then maybe I can get back to some knitting.
